Seasons of Change

AUTUMN IN CENTRAL PARK NEW YORK CITY

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

It’s autumn. My favorite time of the year.

It’s that season when everything around bursts with intense color in a grand display of glorious mosaics.

The sizzling heat of the summer has calmed down to a crisp tender breezy whimsical freshness.

This is fleeting at best, but it’s real and it’s here right now. Here as a gift for us to enjoy and bask in.

It’s autumn. There is beauty all around. There are shades of orange, yellow, pastels and the ever so subtle greens.

autumn

The colors cover the trees and the ground. In between the two, the leaves whisk and flare without a care.

My soul awakens to drink in this gift of purity.

Pure. That’s what it is. God gave it to me to enjoy without questions or hesitation.

It’s autumn . The season I will enjoy. This fall, I will shuffle my feet in the foliage with gratitude.

Gratitude for the ability to walk, smell, taste, hear ,see and feel everything God has lavished on me.

Being Present

I choose not focus on the sting of winter that’s just around the corner, as much as that’s sure to come.

Further more, I will not leave my mind stuck on the happenings of the summer and it’s intensity.

It’s autumn. I’m here, alive and well. Loved. Hemmed in. Standing.

With God’s help, I will allow the seasons (in my life) to change without throwing a fit.

I will let the winds blow away the seasonal things

that were never meant to stay a lifetime.

I will watch this beauty around me and allow my heart to capture it.

And then I will let it go to it’s next stop, rather than try to hold on to what’s transitional.

fall trees

It’s autumn. These beautiful leaves will continue to fall on the ground.

And the leaves will be trampled into dust. The rain will spray on its tender kiss.

The dust will turn to muddy goodness. Consequently, the fertile dirt will infuse life  back into the roots.

Till next time when the colors will burst again into brilliant displays.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

It’s autumn and it won’t last forever because winter is almost here.

When the harsh barrenness of winter comes, and come it will, I will lean in.

I will remember that though they are almost bare, the  trees are not dead. They are being fed and getting stronger.

The pure white snow and the crisp air  carry their own shades of the Creator’s divine order

Hence, I will not complain or fight this inevitable order.

As much as I prefer warmer weather, I’m going to appreciate the value of winter.

I will allow my Father’s embrace to warm me when it seems like my soul is about to shrivel up.

Embracing the Change.

It’s autumn and then winter, but it won’t last for ever.

Spring will come and eventually all will burst back to a vibrant display of newness.

Birds will awaken and remind me to sing. Sing of God’s note worthy faithfulness.

Flowers will bud and as a result, unfold their splendor right before our eyes.

It’s autumn, then winter and spring, but it won’t last for ever.

Summer’s intensity will grab us again.

The sun will shine with authority and boldness. Days will be long and yet inviting.

It’s autumn, for now.

I love the me that’s in it as well as the me I’m becoming.

The me that’s learning to let go and enjoy what is without scrutinizing it all.

I will therefore, enjoy the grace and the beauty that is here now while it’s present.

It’s autumn. Lord help me embrace all the seasons of my life with gratitude and poise

Most of all,  teach me to just be  for there in lies my peace.

It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. Acts 1:7
